Clueful for language teachers

Circumlocution, explaining a word you cannot remember, is a skill most language curricula ask for and few students practice outside class, because it needs someone to guess. Clueful gives each student a guesser at home.

Why teach circumlocution

Students freeze when one word is missing. Teaching them to talk around the gap (category, use, place, comparison) keeps the conversation going. The sentence frames in our circumlocution guide work in English, Spanish and Korean and fit on one slide.

The daily five as homework

Every day Clueful has the same five words for every player in the world. Ask students to play today's five in the language they are learning and bring their shortest clue to class. Comparing clues for the same word is a ready-made five-minute warm-up.

Students can also send each other a challenge link for a single word and try to beat the word count.

Free word lists for class

Every category has a public list of words with four forbidden words each, in English, Spanish and Korean. Print them for a describe-it round in pairs or teams, no app needed.

What it costs

The daily five, challenges and three practice rounds a day are free on iPhone and Mac, so no student has to pay to do the homework. Plus is optional.
